Our cost page explains published local price context, what changes a quote, and how to compare removal, pruning and stump jobs. Dogwood’s price follows your assessed scope.
Published local context
There is no single price for every tree. A local tree-care company’s removal guide, published in June 2022, gives a historical range of CAD $850–$4,000, with complex jobs above that range. It also notes that very small trees can cost less.
This is third-party historical context, not Dogwood’s prices or a current rate card. The guide was checked in October 2026; its original publication date remains 2022. Your current quote can fall outside that range and follows the assessed tree, access, safe method and agreed finish.

A tree beside a driveway with usable working space differs from one above a home, through a narrow side yard or far from vehicle access. The condition may also change which anchors and handling methods are suitable. Include the complete route in photographs so the assessment accounts for the work between the tree and the truck.
A roof-clearance task, deadwood visit, fine ornamental pruning and crown-reduction enquiry are not interchangeable. Identify the objective, the canopy to retain and previous work. A meaningful trimming price should describe the result and branch handling, rather than imply every tree can be cut back by the same amount.
Tell us the stump size, access route, known services and whether the space is intended for lawn, a new tree or construction. Grinding and excavation leave different conditions. Ask about the required depth, remaining roots, grindings, backfill and levelling. Specialist equipment and the provider are confirmed for the project; those stages are separate from removing the standing tree.
Understand the inclusions
These are the items to define when planning a tree-care budget.
| Service | Pricing approach | What determines the scope |
|---|---|---|
| Initial advice & service quote | Complimentary | Property, tree concern and assessment arrangements. |
| Tree removal | Site-specific quote | Tree size and condition, access, method, branches and timber. |
| Tree pruning & trimming | Scope-specific quote | Objective, canopy, branch size, access and cleanup. |
| Stump grinding & stump removal | Method and provider confirmed | Stump dimensions, equipment route, depth, services and remaining material. |
| Hedge trimming & reduction | Hedge-specific quote | Length, height, live growth, faces included and clipping collection. |
| Fruit & ornamental pruning | Plant-specific quote | Framework, species, condition and intended form. |
| Tree & shrub planting | Planting scope quoted | Selection, supply, preparation, installation and aftercare. |
| Formal arborist documents | Separate deliverable and fee | Recipient requirements, author qualifications, investigation and documentation. |
For a combined removal and stump enquiry, establish the exact handover: what timber stays, the treatment area and depth, remaining roots, grindings and any backfill. Our stump-grinding and removal comparison connects those choices to lawn, planting or construction requirements.
For a managed property, formal report or specialist project, supply the current deliverable and contractor-document requirements. A service estimate, commissioned opinion and recurring care arrangement price different commitments. Our Victoria tree-contractor guide helps you compare responsibility and scope alongside the amount.
Clear advice, from the start
Understand your options before you book.
No. The numerical range is historical third-party local market context, not Dogwood’s rate card or a current offer. Dogwood prices the assessed scope. Tree condition, access, material handling and separately requested work can change the quote substantially. Request your free, no obligation property-specific estimate.
Initial advice and quotes are complimentary. Provide the property, trees or hedges and intended outcome so assessment arrangements can be discussed. Formal reports, specialist investigations and separately commissioned documents have their own scope and agreed fees; they should not be assumed to be included in a free quote.
The species if known, approximate size, pruning objective and access are useful starting points. Show the canopy in relation to buildings and describe previous cuts. A roof-clearance task, structural pruning and a large reduction require different work, so the price should follow the actual objective.
Not automatically. Ask for it to be identified separately, with stump size, access, desired depth and the next use of the space. The method, equipment and provider are confirmed for the site. Grindings removal, backfill and later landscaping may be additional scope items.
A coordinated enquiry can share planning and access, but each task still needs a defined scope and suitable timing. List everything you are considering and ask for the agreed inclusions. Any price difference follows the assessment; a standard package discount should not be assumed.
Only where explicitly agreed. Authority charges, formal documents and replacement conditions can be separate from physical tree work. Send the relevant requirements so responsibility and cost can be discussed. The quote should make exclusions and any separately arranged provider clear.
Compare the proposed objective, methods, retained canopy, access and cleanup alongside the figure. Ask about relevant qualifications and current project documents. A detailed, suitable scope is more informative than an undefined low price or a broad claim of quality. Review the finish you will receive before booking.
No. It starts a discussion about the property, scope and assessment. The team confirms suitability, availability, price and permissions before work is agreed. For urgent concerns, call to check the next available response rather than assume a submitted form books attendance.
