1. The tree and its condition
Height, trunk size and branch spread affect how much material needs handling. A dead or damaged tree can also change the approach. Tell us what has changed, what lies beneath the tree and why you want it removed.
A tree that can be worked on from a clear area is different from one over a roof, deck or neighbouring garden. The method should reflect those surroundings.
2. Access, climbing and rigging
Gate width, stairs, slopes, narrow side yards and the distance to vehicle access can influence time and equipment. When a tree must be dismantled in sections, climbing and rigging requirements form part of the plan.
Send photographs showing the route from the street to the work area. A close view of the tree alone will not show these constraints.
3. Branches, timber and the finish
Agree on what happens to every part of the tree. Branch removal, chipping, timber retained on site and hauling are different scope items. A quote should make clear what is included and what the property will look like afterwards.
If you want usable firewood or wood left for another project, say so before the quote. Cutting, splitting, seasoning and storage should not be assumed to be the same task.
4. Stump work and later landscaping
Tree removal does not automatically remove the stump. Grinding, excavation, grindings removal, soil replacement and ground restoration must be discussed separately. The next use of the space affects what is practical.
For machinery access, include the narrowest entrance and any underground-service or irrigation concerns. Stump-work availability and the provider are confirmed in the assessment.
5. Permits and documentation
Tree rules vary by municipality and project. A protected-tree application or formal arborist report can add requirements beyond the physical removal. Check the tree permit guide and share any requested documentation before booking.
Complimentary initial advice and a removal quote should not be confused with a formal written assessment required by an authority.
Compare scope before price
For broader service pricing and published local removal-cost context, visit our Victoria tree-service prices page. This guide helps you compare the actual work behind each quote.
Ask each provider to identify the tree, proposed work, cleanup and any exclusions. Confirm scheduling, payment terms and the current documentation your property requires. If prices differ, those details help explain why.
Dogwood provides free, no obligation quotes for the actual property. We do not publish a single price for every tree because that can hide the work that matters most to your site.
